Data Protection and Privacy Policy

Structural Engineers Registration Limited (SER) is fully committed to protecting the confidentiality of the information that is supplied by applicants to and members of the Scheme. Certifiers and Approved Bodies will only be able to access their own information stored on the register by using a registration number unique to them. Details of Registration can be printed or downloaded in read-only format (PDF). The searches will be used to check validity of certificates and to identify approved bodies.

SER Ltd will not divulge any information sent to us to any third parties except the States of Jersey Planning and Environment Department (PED) for its Certification Register as well as audit purposes.

SER Ltd will provide data to the PED on the Scheme for Certification of Design (Building Structures), Approved Bodies, registered Certifiers as well as contact details for the Certification Co-ordinator. Data will cover the scope of the Scheme.

Information regarding approval of applications, rejection of renewals requests, audit results and the outcome of any complaints procedures will be recorded by the SER Ltd and forwarded for information to the PED.

Limited information on individual certifiers such as registration number, name, date of registration, and expiry date will be held by the PED. No contact details will be held by the PED for individual certifiers as all communication should be made through the Certification Coordinator of the Approved Body, or the Scheme Provider.

We may also use aggregate information and statistics for the purposes of monitoring website usage in order to help us develop the website and our services and may provide such aggregate information to third parties. These statistics will not include information that can be used to identify any individual.

Information will be treated in confidence except in cases of a breach of the Planning and Building (Jersey) Law 2002 or the associated bye-laws. However, as an authority, the Planning and Environment Department is bound by the States of Jersey Code of Practice on Public Access to official information and would have to consider requests made under that Code for access to information that it holds. Any such information where the release would substantially prejudice the commercial interests will be exempt under the Code.

We may wish to contact you for feedback and comments on our services. We may also wish to provide you with information about special features of our website, related information from parties and any other products and services that we think may be of interest to you.

By submitting your application you consent to the use of that information as set out in this policy. If we change our privacy policy we will post the changes on these pages, and may place notices on other pages of the website, so that you may be aware of the information we collect and how we use it at all times. Regularly reviewing these pages will ensure that you are always aware of what information we collect and how we use it. Continued use of the service will signify that you agree to any such changes.

Owing to the global nature of the Internet infrastructure, the information you provide may be transferred in transit to countries outside the European Economic Area that do not have similar protections in place regarding your data and its use as set out in this policy. By submitting your information you consent to these transfers.
