Performance Criteria
Certifiers shall satisfy themselves that adequate details have been prepared for the fixings and supports to building services, that there are sufficient calculations or other justification for the design and that there is evidence that the design and details have had the appropriate level of checking.
Background
Mandatory Standard 1.1 requires that the building, which is deemed to also mean parts of the building, must resist the dead and imposed loads that are liable to act on it.
Certifiers are expected to review the designs and details for the fixings and supports to buildings services to see that they will meet the required standard.
Guidance
Certifiers must see that the fixings and supports for any building services have been designed and detailed to meet the requirements of Standard 1.1.
Certifiers must ensure that the building is designed for the loads from any building services, plant, equipment, fixtures and fittings eg ventilation fans and associated ductwork, cable trays, hvac units, water tanks, etc and shall consider whether or not the resulting deflections will be within acceptable limits.
Certifiers are not expected to consider the integrity of the building services themselves or the spacing of any supports, which are to be determined by the designers of items that are to be supported. However, Certifiers must review the design of the fixings and supports to such items and ensure that they are compatible with the design of the building.
Examples of Major Non-conformances
Absence of or grossly inadequate evidence of the Certifier’s review of the design of the fixings and supports for building services.
The design of any of the fixings and supports clearly does meet the requirements of Standards 1.1 and 1.2.
Absence of or grossly inadequate suitably checked structural calculations or other justification for the design of the fixings and supports for building services.
Absence of or grossly inadequate details for fixings and supports on the warrant drawings.
